How Do ‘Super-Agers’ Stay Young?
Recently, I have found myself thinking a lot about this question. In my therapy practice, I have spoken to many about the isolation and loneliness that they feel and that is evident in our communities today. Whether these feelings are exacerbated by overuse of technology and social media, continued increased work from home positions, or the lingering impacts of COVID-19 on people’s ability to connect in meaningful ways, people are clearly longing for and working to develop community. With that in mind, I found this recent article to be a ‘call to arms’ if you will. Twenty-five years of research clearly indicates that having human connection and being part of a community absolutely predicts successful aging more than other factors, including what we eat and how we move our bodies. This article provides touching examples of the ways in which ‘super agers’ stay connected and healthy…and seem to have a lot of fun in the process!
